Fitting Ideals and Multiple-points of Surface Parameterizations

Given a birational parameterization φ of an algebraic surface S in the projective space P3, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the sets of points on S whose preimage consists in k or more points, counting multiplicities. They are described explicitly in terms of Fitting ideals of some graded parts of the symmetric algebra associated to the parameterization φ.

Vanishing ideals over rational parameterizations

Let R = K[y] = K[y1, . . . , yn] be a polynomial ring over an arbitrary field K and let F be a finite set {f1/g1, . . . , fs/gs} of rational functions in K(y), the quotient field of R, where fi (resp. gi) is in R (resp. R \ {0}) for all i. As usual we denote the affine and projective spaces over the field K by As and Ps−1, respectively. Points of the projective space Ps−1 are denoted by [α], wh...

Computing Ideals of Points

The easiest geometric object in affine or projective space is a single rational point. It has no secrets, in particular its defining ideal, i.e. the set of all the polynomials which vanish at the point, is straightforward to describe. Namely, for an affine point with coordinates (a1, . . . , an), the corresponding ideal is p = (x1 − a1, . . . , xn − an); while for a projective point with coordi...

On the fitting ideals of a comultiplication module

Let $R$ be a commutative ring. In this paper we assert some properties of finitely generated comultiplication modules and Fitting ideals of them.

Intrinsic Parameterizations of Surface Meshes

Parameterization of discrete surfaces is a fundamental and widely-used operation in graphics, required, for instance, for texture mapping or remeshing. As 3D data becomes more and more detailed, there is an increased need for fast and robust techniques to automatically compute least-distorted parameterizations of large meshes. In this paper, we present new theoretical and practical results on t...
